Why this film matters
FRIENDS tells a domestic comedy through a dog’s eyes. In the organiser’s synopsis, Jiwoo and his dog Maximus welcome a robotic dog caregiver; Maximus warms to it while the family is away, then turns jealous when a software update makes the robot the household’s new favourite, and a prank changes everything. The filmmaking problem is sustaining a 15-minute animated story with a non-speaking animal at its centre and keeping three characters, boy, dog and robot, consistent throughout.
AI Film Festival Japan gave it the Outstanding AI Animation Award, runner-up in its 2025 animation category, announced on November 2, 2025. That result establishes exhibition and recognition, not a critical verdict.
Production evidence
The director and studio are identified by the festival, the official poster and a May 2026 business report on the film’s TVING release. The company describes a pre-planned plot rather than reliance on generated output, but names no models or tools. The release is on a subscription platform; no free public stream was found, and the journal has not watched the complete film.
