Why this film matters
El día que me quieras. El viaje de Gardel uses AI animation for a biographical subject that would be costly to film conventionally: the life of Carlos Gardel, from the Buenos Aires slums to Paris, Hollywood and New York, and his death in 1935. The filmmaking problem is building a period world and a cast of historical figures consistently enough to carry a half-hour story, while keeping the performances human; the credits list a voice cast rather than a cloned Gardel.
AI Film Festival Japan gave it the Special Jury Award at its 2025 edition, announced on November 2, 2025. The University of Buenos Aires describes the same prize as a jury award for best animation; the organiser’s category name is used here.
Production evidence
The credits are unusually complete for an AI-assisted film: a university production with named producers, writer, AI realiser, sound and archive researchers, and a human voice cast. The running time comes from the director’s interview as summarised by Infobae. No public full-length stream has been found; the film has toured festivals and community screenings, so it is listed as a festival screening with the official trailer. The journal has not watched the complete film.
