Matías Mera directed El día que me quieras. El viaje de Gardel, an AI-animated account of Carlos Gardel’s life produced by the University of Buenos Aires with Cráneo Films, which received AI Film Festival Japan’s 2025 Special Jury Award. In an Infobae interview, as summarised by the broadcaster, he explains that the team chose AI animation over a costly conventional documentary while keeping human voice performances.
The project is credited to a named team, from screenwriter and AI realiser to archive researchers, rather than to a solo operator. Mera is reported to work with Cráneo Films; the production company’s channel is used here as his public base. Specific generation tools and budgets are not disclosed.
