Why it matters

Chroma is the largest open AI-media competition by volume: the organiser counts more than 6,500 projects from over 5,500 participants in its first season. Its film categories are the genres of a conventional festival, so AI work is judged by form rather than by tool. Sponsor tool awards sit in a separate layer; winning one only shows that the entrant used that tool.

Season 1

Judging ran in three rounds, with a panel per category, and ranked results are published in the official gallery. The Twin Earth by Jacopo Zanetti placed first in Film - Sci-Fi & Fantasy, independently confirming an award its maker had previously reported. Didi_ok’s Didi Li placed third in the same category. Other first places went to AMRIT, The Decisive Moment: Midnight Drop, The Ice, Kill The Rabbit, Garden of Kin, Humans: Playtime, Railbound and Remember Me. The organiser’s pages no longer date Season 1, so its deadline and livestream come from No Film School’s launch coverage. The competition began in 2023 as Project Odyssey.

Season 2

Entries opened on October 19, 2026. The official rules and FAQ agree that entries close on January 7, 2027 at 11:45 p.m. Pacific time. Finalists go to a public vote and jury judging, with winners announced on a February 11 livestream and an in-person gala planned for April 2027.

November 5, 2026

The published rules and FAQ both confirm January 7 as the submission deadline, resolving the January 1 date in the earlier ElevenLabs announcement.
