Why it matters

This is the United Nations’ own AI film competition. It asks for one- to ten-minute films that engage with social impact, and its judging explicitly weighs ethical and legal integrity, making it one of the few competitions that treats responsible AI practice as part of the craft. Entry is free; the reward is a trophy and a place at the AI for Good Global Summit.

Editions

The 2026 winner was PLASTIC EROSION, directed by Yifei Li and Zheng Bao, announced on July 9 during the summit. In 2025 Souls of the Shipwreck won; Odair Faléco’s Clothes of Deception was among the finalists. ITU also chooses an AI for Good Award within the Reply AI Film Festival.

The 2027 call opens on January 15, 2027 and closes on May 1. Finalists are announced on May 24 and premiere at Palexpo in Geneva on June 22.
