Why this short matters
The film asks who gets to decide a person’s role. Its surreal comic world turns waiting for a job into a larger problem of agency: a role can be assigned, withheld or chosen. That gives its stylised architecture and social arrangements a dramatic purpose beyond polished imagery.
The complete original October 27 YouTube premiere runs 10:10. The filmmaker’s portfolio separately advertises an October 23 film premiere. Neither date is substituted for the other’s upload history. The Astana AI Film Festival’s own results confirm Best Visual — Jacopo Zanetti / What’s the Job, rather than relying solely on the release’s award caption.
Zanetti is explicitly the writer and director. His finishing disclosure names DaVinci Resolve for edit, color and sound design and Musicbed / Epidemic Sound for music. It does not identify exact generation models or a full human crew. A prize amount is not treated as production spending.
The earlier Twin Earth shows a related interest in societies confronting a different possible life, while using a separately disclosed production stack. Those older models do not become this film’s credits. Original full description, filmmaker portfolio, official award results, complete player, sampled imagery and original artwork were checked; no full critical viewing is claimed.
