Why this film matters
Centenarian Kindergarten uses satire to address a real demographic problem. In 2090, with no children being born, a former kindergarten has become a care home. AI assistants there enforce “absolute safety” and compulsory happiness, and four centenarians stage an absurd escape to prove they are still alive in their own right. The comic premise lets the film criticise care that removes dignity without lecturing.
At the 2026 Reply AI Film Festival it placed third and won the AI for Good Award, presented with the International Telecommunication Union. Reply said it offered the most effective interpretation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The studio’s own note that the film was made in four days explains the scale of what was attempted, not its quality.
