Why this film matters

Horel treats AI as both the instrument and the subject. Her Weaver is a figure that observes, measures and archives, yet in the director’s statement fails to grasp what makes a person singular. The film puts that question into its method: public-domain illustration models are mixed with a model trained on her own face, so the collage that examines the machine’s gaze is partly built from the artist’s image.

It began as a commissioned chapter for ARTE France’s PhantasIA research programme and became a standalone short essay. The release lists the WAIFF 2026 Press Prize among its awards, alongside honours from Artefact and the ADC Awards.

Production evidence

Credits, the tool list and the custom-model approach all come from the director’s own release and statement. How much each tool contributed and the budget are not disclosed. This is an authored documentary essay rather than a conventional narrative; it is included for its clear authorship and its argument. The journal has not watched the complete film.

Custom models

Horel writes that she trained public-domain illustration models on Krea and mixed them with another model trained on her own selfies, so that she becomes, in her words, somehow the Weaver herself.
