Why this film matters
Kev borrows the grammar of an intimate documentary: a man speaking to camera, a voice that carries the story over other images and a few close, everyday spaces. Reply describes it as an exploration of Kev’s experience of blindness and the relationships and daily life that matter to him. The challenge is to sustain a believable performance in close-up, where any lapse in expression is most visible.
It won the Micro-Short award at the 2026 Austin AI Film Festival and was one of Reply’s ten 2026 finalists. A third-party breakdown reports that Kev himself was generated. If so, the film is a fiction in documentary form, and it should be read that way rather than as a record of a real person.
