Documentary form, intimate portraiture and lens-like realism
A British writer-director and former commercials director whose documentary-form short Kev won Austin's 2026 Micro-Short award.
Mike Bennion’s site identifies him as a writer/director, and Reply lists him as a UK director. He wrote and directed Kev, a four-minute portrait of a blind man that uses the conventions of documentary: talking to camera, a voice carrying the story and a small set of everyday spaces. That form puts the filmmaking problem in performance and restraint rather than spectacle.
Kev won the Micro-Short award at the 2026 Austin AI Film Festival and was one of Reply’s ten 2026 finalists. Reply names Midjourney, Nano Banana, Kling, Veo 3 and ElevenLabs as its tools. His wider filmography and collaborators are not reviewed here, and no social handle has been added.
