Why it matters

Torino Underground Cinefest is an independent festival in its thirteenth edition. Its AI competition shows an established festival giving AI-made work a competitive lane of its own, screened in a cinema alongside conventional features and documentaries rather than in a separate technology showcase.

Editions

The AI award was new in 2026: Cornered by Odair Faléco and Davi Moori won Best AI Short, announced at the festival’s close on October 4 and published the next day. The organiser’s TUC13 history page carries an older awards block that contradicts these results; the official results article is used here. No jury is named for the AI section.

For 2027 the section becomes AI Visions, “a new competitive section dedicated to films created partially or entirely using Artificial Intelligence”, with a Best AI Film award. The rules give September 2, 2026 as the call opening. FilmFreeway lists September 11 as the platform opening.

November 5, 2026

The festival’s FilmFreeway listing gives November 9 for its next paid entry tier and August 9, 2027 for its final entry deadline. The written rules still say mid-August. FilmFreeway lists the festival for September 27 to October 3, 2027. The rules’ August 16 date is for delivering screening copies of selected films.
