Why this film matters

Nix draws on the Swedish legend of Näcken, a water spirit who teaches mortals to play in exchange for something precious. The story turns a gift of music into a curse that spreads through a village celebration, so sound and dance carry the horror. Its makers frame it as the pilot for a folklore anthology, a deliberate test of whether a three-minute piece can establish a world worth returning to.

Nix took second place in Curious Refuge’s 2026 AI Horror Film Competition. The organiser says some jurors compared it to The Witch and wanted to see it as a feature.
