Why this film matters
Divine Retribution places a supernatural birth inside a Joseon-era village and tells it through a mother, a shaman and villagers caught between fear and faith. Period setting and folk belief demand consistent costume, ritual and place, which makes the film a test of whether generated imagery can carry historical texture rather than generic fantasy.
Runway’s 2026 AI Festival gave it a Merit and hosts the full film.
