The year is 2126. AI manages daily life with apparent precision, but student Alice begins questioning what is real. The festival’s complete release runs approximately 3:57 and was uploaded on May 16, 2026; today’s addition is a discovery, not a new premiere.

AI Film Festival Japan names the film as the Grand Prix winner in the Non-Genre / Free Theme category of its AIFJ × LOOP 2126 Prelude competition. That category-specific result should not be confused with a claim to have won every festival division.

Why this film matters

Its central filmmaking problem is communicating doubt through a character’s experience of an apparently ordered world. The science-fiction setting gives visual design a dramatic purpose: help the viewer question the evidence available to Alice. Ma’s decision to work without dialogue makes framing, action and editing carry that burden.

The full festival player and creator-linked version were checked. Festival recognition establishes exhibition and an award; it does not substitute for a full critical assessment.

Production boundaries

The interview provides a process account, not a film-specific model/version list or complete credit roll. Budget, music credits and exact generation tools for this short remain unverified. Ma’s general platform preferences are recorded on his artist page without assigning them to this production.

Development and schedule

Ma says he completed the film in roughly two weeks without a conventional written screenplay, developing it from ideas in his head. He chose dialogue-free animation to imagine a future without the need for speech.

Movement and finishing

When text prompts could not produce Alice’s intended movements, Ma supplied photo references. He also describes switching tools when necessary and using editing and colour grading to refine generated material.
