Clark’s original release describes the Black soldiers of the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion and their protection of troops and ships during D-Day. His later making-of announcement connects the project to his father and grandfather.
Why this film matters
Historical reconstruction gives generated imagery a specific responsibility: place people inside an event and make their experience legible. The personal connection is a stronger reason to examine this short than the scale of its battle imagery alone.
The five-minute original is distinct from the later 43-second Battalion Redux experiment.
