Why this film matters
Present keeps to one woman on one day. A fiftieth birthday seen from inside a failing memory turns an ordinary marker into disorientation, and the synopsis frames the drama as Gelsomina’s sense that the world no longer has room for her. Choosing a subjective, interior subject for AI-assisted imagery is a harder test than spectacle: the images have to carry perception and mood rather than action.
The film was made as a 2025 diploma project at CISA in Locarno. At the World AI Film Festival in Cannes on April 22, 2026, it won Best 8th Art Film, as the organiser’s prize list and the school’s announcement report.
