Why this film matters

Hazama, a Japanese word for an in-between space, is both the title and the dramatic situation: a woman who has returned from Japan to Sweden is caught between life and death after a winter accident. Moreno builds it from live-action footage with AI visual effects, so the test is whether generated effects can extend a photographed performance and a real Swedish landscape without breaking the drama. He describes perinatal mental health as its central theme.

It won the Hybrid category at the 2026 Austin AI Film Festival, after a premiere at AI Film Festival Japan and other festival screenings listed by the director.
