Why follow this artist

Olivos describes his direction of The Black Box as a continuous responsibility: narrative, characters, environments, atmosphere, light and composition. The interesting standard is that each shot should belong to the same world and contribute to the story.

The released ten-minute installment provides a more substantial test of that standard than a trailer. Its five credited creative roles also make the collaboration visible. Magnific backs and promotes the production, so it belongs here as a studio-supported narrative experiment, not as evidence of an unaided solo director.

Our reason for following Olivos is that declared relationship between story and visual continuity. The film’s production speed is a maker claim; further episodes will provide a better test of sustained authorship.
